“Recognising the seriousness of this terrorist attack, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) decided upon the following measures.”
Key Measures Announced by the CCS:
1. Indus Waters Treaty Suspended:
The historic Indus Waters Treaty of 1960, which has survived wars and decades of hostility, will now be held in abeyance with immediate effect. This step underscores India’s resolve that water cooperation cannot continue without peace and trust. The treaty will remain suspended until Pakistan credibly and irrevocably ends its support for terrorism.
2. Attari Integrated Checkpost Closed:
The Attari checkpost, a crucial transit point between India and Pakistan, will be closed immediately. Pakistani nationals who entered India legally through Attari may return via the same route only till May 1, 2025.
3. SAARC Visa Exemptions Cancelled:
India has suspended the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) for Pakistani nationals. All previously issued SVES visas to Pakistani citizens are cancelled with immediate effect, and those currently in India under this scheme have 48 hours to leave.
4. Military Attachés Declared Persona Non Grata:
India has declared the Defence, Military, Naval, and Air Advisors in the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi as persona non grata. They are expected to leave the country within a week.
5. Indian Advisors to Return from Islamabad:
In a reciprocal move, India will withdraw its own Defence, Navy, and Air Advisors from the High Commission in Islamabad. These roles have been officially annulled.
